IIRC, Franz Josef pressured Franz Ferdinand into signing some sort of
document to the effect that when FF became emperor, he would not
change the laws and allow his children to inherit.
The text of FF's declaration of June 28, 1900 is here:
http://www.heraldica.org/topics/royalty/ps1713.htm#1900
In it, FF states that his marriage to Sophie Chotek is "to be deemed
now and forever not as equal, but as morganatic", that his issue shall
have no rights to either half of the Empire, and he promises never to
try to repeal the declaration or attempt anything with the aim of
diminishing or removing its binding force.
Was that legally binding, or only morally so?
It is incredible how childish the cowboys can be.
Have you been wearing a hat one size too small for your head again?
