I read today that of a theory after WWI that the Hungarian element
were somehow implicated in the assination of F.F. owing to the
archduke's liberal views respecting Serbia and the Balkans. Has the
question of Prinzip's motivation (and possible complicity of others)
ever been dispostiviely settled?

Incidentally, I also did not realize until today that the archduke's
marriage was morganatic. Who became the heir upon his assassination?

Bill King

The heir was the Blessed Karl, who eventually became the Emperor. Read The
Road to Sarajevo. Excellent book -- IIRC by former Yugoslav diplomat. Has
great details of plotters. No mention of Hungary.

Hungary was implicated in assassination of Alexander of Yugoslavia in
Marseilles.

Interesting footnote to Princip. Because he was something like 21 days shy
of his 18th birthday at the time the murders were committed, he was under
A-H laws of the time tried as a juvenile and could not be given a death
penalty. This was true of a number of the other conspirators as well. He
died in prison - catching typhus or something like that from the unsanitary
conditions. OFF TOPIC ASIDE - This is an interesting fate for the man who
caused the Great War which killed millions when one compares it to the
judicial system in today's USA.
