Actually one drops back upon the pregnancy of some one ahead of you.
If this is not true how did Alfonso XIII become King in 1886. His
sister was the heiress-presumptive and should have come to The Throne
and would have if she had been presented with a sister. Obviously a
pregnancy is all that is necessary to hold off a claimant.
So who was the sovereign of Spain (or was there one) between 25 Nov 1885
(when his father died) and 17 May 1886, when Alfonso was born?
