Don, how do you arrive at that conclusion? I would have understood it
if you had said "a descent from anyone living in Western Europe c.
1600", or some time around that. But as long as we limit ourselves from
decent from someone living in Western Europe c. 800, with no guarantee
of later generations from the this area, I simply can't see how you can
make the statment you do.

Indeed, a descent from Western Europe c.800, but not later, would have
an _extremely_ small chance of including Charlemagne as an acestor.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. To speak of a descent from
someone living c.800 cannot possibly imply "but not later". Where the
later generations lived is irrelevant.
