Re: HRH the Duke of Savoy arrested

In medio alt.talk.royalty aperuit Guy Stair Sainty <guy@xxxxxxxxxx> os suum:
The payment by Migliardi is explained as a gift for the victims of the tsunami
and the Savoy Orders institution's accounts are reported as being managed in
accord with Swiss law, so presumably this will be demonstrated later.

It would not be the least interesting aspect of this affair if the world were to
learn of the extent of the Sicilian mafia's philanthropic activities. Who knew
what soft hearts they have? I suppose the bribes to the finance official were
also part of some charitable enterprise.

Even if the tsunami story is true, it shows colossal failure of judgment for the
duke to accept charitable donations in envelopes stuffed with thousands of euro
notes from a Sicilian slot-machines operator.

Incidentally, if the Order was involved to cover up this business it will also
do enormous damage to other orders whose charitable activities (however
legitimate) will now be subject to suspicion.

The practice of government's smearing their predecessors is an old one, indulged
by politicians of every stripe in Italy.

Once again, the investigation was carried out under the previous government, and
you can't blame Prodi for the duke of Savoy's conversations. For those, he has
no one to blame but himself.
