Well, I did think of doing exactly as you suggest and was about to
actually do so, when he put out that piece about how unhumble his
humble origins were, boasted about his membership of exclusive clubs
and started dropping the names of Lord Rupert Nevil and others. Then I
saw the silly "Coat of Arms" and the pure bilge about the Royal Order
of the Lion of Rwanda, and thought better of any such foolish
temptation I may have had.

Well how gratified to know that you *might* have done the decent thing.

My first inclination was to ignore the defamatory posts; but instead I
decided
to respond to specifically false allegations simply because by
not doing so the presumption that there is truth in these allegations is
allowed
to fester. Some of the attacks were so silly (the everyone hates#
you, type), some were very specific, and some (such as the "humble
origins" one)
somewhere in between. The allegation was made that I have concealed my
"true
origins" in an attempt to defraud; these therefore warranted a
challenge.
My
reply was intended to do this.

But rest assured whether you support these personal attacks or feels as
some
others do who post here is of no importance to me.

I have now decided to take legal action and will be trying to discover
the
identity of this poster, with professional assisatance.

If anyone can assist me in this by pointing to the identity of this
poster
I
would be most grateful and would respect the informant's
confidentiality.

Legal action? You gotta be kidding! For your attorney's sake, I hope he
requires a huge retainer up front.

But why shouldn't Guy sue? The offending libel has been published in
the United Kingdom by virtue of it having been made available for
people in the United Kingdom to view on their computer screens.

Guy can accordingly claim protection under the UK libel laws, which
are amongst the most stringent.

Or do you think that the Internet is a free for all and not subject to
control?

No, I nowhere state that the net is not subject to control. However, I will
say there is very little case law on the subject and I fear Guy will be less
than fruitful in his efforts. I am by no means defending those who are
unseemingly attacking him. I just don't think he'll find any comfort in the
courts.
