Ken, I think you need to look on the indivudual case for each family.
You are probably among the first people wanting to compare extinct HRE
noble families to mediatized families.
Siebmacher's armorial has a list of families who would have been mediatized (in
the editors' opinion) had they not become extinct before 1803.
