But the instability of the majority - particularly the Balkan monarchies -
was predominately the fault of external forces; and these states which
had emerged from centuries of domination by Turkey had inevitably a long
way to go before finding any kind of enduring security. But surely the citizens
of all these countries were better off in every sense under their Monarchies
than under the post WWII communist republics?
