It was invented by the Swiss. I think that's important, somehow.
And much of this stuff is no longer labeled as 'pasteurized process
cheese food', which has a particular legal definition. It's labelled
as 'word salad containing cheese but not anything meaningful', because
it's not good enough to be called 'pasteurized process cheese food'.
