Which reminds me, I really should get back to ghosting the last few labs
with the stripped down image, while also ...
.... discovering that the brand shiny! new switches we had installed for
us in the name of "standardisation" are good insofar as those labs are
now gigabit to the wall, but not quite so good insofar as the damn things
have to have everything set up more-or-less from scratch for every damn
detail, any one of which is a show-stopper, for every port in every lab,
and on every vlan. I'm sure there's a reason not to have multicast
enabled by default, and there's probably a good reason why ghost will
work if the ports are static, but not if they're dynamic (even when
that's the only difference), but I still want to punch a series of holes
in a wall with someone's head. My supply of "patience", "tolerance" and
"goodwill" are severely in deficit, and don't look like going back into
credit in the foreseeable future.
The more I work with computers, the better and better subsistence farming
looks as an alternative.
Oh, and I think I'm going to institute a "2 stupid questions per day"
rule retroactively. Yes, "Can I ask you a question?" and "Are you busy?"
both count. There are several people who have used up their quotas until
well past 2015, and there may have to be revocation of breathing
privileges for serious quota breaches. (Definition of "serious" at the
discretion of the BOFH, of course.)
Pour encourager les autres, of course.
