That reminds me of the time I was doing development work in my first
job. IIRC, we had PCs with a whopping 32 MB of RAM. I got sick and
tired of all the paging, so bought myself a suitable 64 MB stick and
swapped it in. Gave the 32 MB to a colleague.
When I left, the 64 MB came with me, and the 32 MB came out of my
colleague's PC, back into mine.
It was shortly after that that that employer purchased a RAM upgrade
for all of those on my former team.
I had a similar experience: I bought a dual monitor card so I could
develop code on two 15" fishbowls rather than just one. The two
directors would come round and express surprise that anyone could find
that useful, but then I found they both upgraded to dual monitor shortly
after I left.
I think it's that they can't admit they were wrong.
