We had a _BIG_ line of T-storms last night, and now I'm unable to get
to those boxen. I _am_ able to get to boxen elsewhere in the world,
though, which means that There's A Big Problem At Ork and also that
I Can Expect To Have Far Too Much Fun when I get there.

I wonder if the whole damn building's power-down yet fscking again. I
rather expect it is. *sigh*

That happened to me Wednesday evening/Thursday morning. You have my
sympathy.

Well, that was Too Much Fun.

The big VOZ RS-6K -- the box that the Aches-based firewall shambles on
-- didn't want to come up, so they tried to go to the PIXen-and-load-
balancer, which was an unmitigated disastrous failure. Not much point
in doing anything else until the firewall's up.

That was just for starters.

The switch connecting the Big UPS to the net had failed earlier, so no
"I'm Dyyyyyyiiiiiinnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg" notices were sent out as the
UPS drifted off into temporary oblivion. We didn't know about that
until this morning.

The various interlocking bits of the Big Racks Of Swervers, each of
which has to come up before any of the others can be started, came up
in the Default Wrong Order. TTBOMK nothing was lost thereby except
time, but I don't know that with certainty.

And We've Got Electricians. Today was the day for electricians to put
in power cabling for the new VOZ Tape Library, They're not doing any
particularly harmful things ... yet. They're just pulling floor tiles
and leaving holes for the unwary and sleep-deprived.

I think it's all up; the overnight data-collection-and-mangling has
to be done during Prime Time, which is going to Make Important Things
Late, but that's unavoidable.

Maybe TPTB will look at the three building outages in the last year
and decide we _do_ need a generator for the machine room. And maybe
they won't. I'm for it.

One good effect: it got me out of a meeting.
