We were discussing certain matters (like a svsgl zvyyvba qbyyne
wnpxcbg va gur ybpny ybggrel) at ork today. $CO-WORKER (yes, she's
pretty clued) commented that one of those (as distinct from fifty, to
avoid the pedants that roam around here) wouldn't be reason enough to
resign. I disagreed - it's enough to change the course of my life
significantly, even if it's not enough to retire on. (Let's see. Pay
off the mortgage, buy lots of toys of the "too expensive to justify to
myself for the use they'd get" variety, and fund my lifestyle through
retraining in a non-poota-related industry... yup, one fiftieth of
that would do very nicely indeed.

People often speak of the large prizes in such lotteries, saying they
would not know what to do with so much $. Well, neither would I, but I
would be happy to do the research should I win. I had decided, long
before retirement, that I would not immediately give my notice, but let
it be known that I no longer needed the job, and toy with manglement a
bit. No, make that a whole lot.

Actually, when the chance of retirement came along, incidentally via
something called a "Separation Incentive Plan," things went relatively
smoothly, with cow-orkers coming around to ask about things about which
I had tried to teach them many times before.

I had been playing the (forced) federal lottery every two weeks for over
forty years, and soon they will be paying off.
