The one time I had to apply for unemployment, they got all the forms
alright, but then they kept promising a ruling on my eligibility
within two weeks.

Which turned out to be two months. At which time I was sponging off
friends and family, and staving off a furious landlord.

And to make matters worse, by the time they finally paid out three
months of back unemployment benefits, I had found another job.

12 years of incessant propaganda painting anyone applying for benefits
tends to have that effect.

Different country, but similar culture - including with regard to this
particular issue, it sounds like. I hope never to have much experience
with the unemployment people here. I did apply for unemployment once,
but was fortunate enough to have found another job before the payments
would have started.

ObLifeSucks: Mum and stepdad had the brown tabby BCFH put to sleep
today. I'll definitely miss the old coot (well, not that old - 15 -
but he was getting quite grumpy and a bit stiff)... knew him since
before his eyes opened. Unfortunately he was getting a bit too
aggressive, especially toward the other two feline overlords.

Hoisting a pint for him tonight...
