Big Ben is roughly in the centre of London. The signal has to travel from
there to the playout centre, which I expect would either be BH about a mile
off to the east, or the rather cheaper offices about five miles to the west.
There, it is sliced and diced and shipped off to Crystal Palace which is six
miles to the south. There, it's sliced and diced further, and then has to
travel six miles back to the listener's radio within earshot of Westminster.
It's a bit more than 264 feet...
I generally get to hear Big Ben's midnight chimes at 00:00:03, thanks to
codec delays. DAB, we hateses it, we do.
