I have a similar complaint about french fries. I was raised
properly (south side Chicago), and a french fry should be about 1/4"
square, and no less than 2" long, with the skins still on the ends.
This should be cooked in a deep fryer until it's greasy, firm, and as
you put it, "bendy". Anything less is a terrible prank foisted upon the
world by northsiders, who are undoubtly Cubs fans as well[0].

[0] In some places, there is no worse an insult.
