Having a blood sugar level of only just below the 'sliding into a coma
level' before I was diagnosed will do that to you - I was only a day or
so from the same experience as you. As you say - it focusses the mind
somewhat.

I wasn't remotely like that when I was first diagnosed though - I
remember (this was about ten years ago) a period of sustained weight
loss and being thirsty a -lot- - but nothing like the massive
hyperglycemia I experienced at the weekend. Seriously - when I finally
realised I was seriously sick and this wasn't a cold and left the house
I found that god had turned the constrast up on the sky so much I
couldn't see any colours any more. Not good.

Have realised from conversations with the various medical bofh that
serviced me over the week that when they describe someone was 'unwell'
it has a whole level of emphasis and meaning that I've never previously
applied to it. I thought with all the latin there were enough words to
describe the various degrees of fsckedness one can achieve, but it was a
while before I realised that when they told me I was 'quite unwell' when
I was wheeled in they weren't being scarcastic and understated, but I was.
