The only semi-serious accident I ever had on a bike was (thinks) 26 years
ago on my beloved Raleigh Chopper (purple). Freewheeling downhill, going
at (what felt like) a fair clip, I applied the brakes. The front brakes
detached themselves from the housing and clamped themselves to the front
wheel, with the effect that I got launched over the handle bars.
That's why the user manual for the bike tells you not to do that...
