The young lady has proven to the sub-dean's satisfaction that she can
study and learn something. She may still have no ability to learn
engineering, but she's still ahead of the n00b freshmen that haven't
proven ability to study yet.
I'll give you that point. However, the structure of the course is such
that she would have been doing the bridging courses at the *same time*
as other subjects that need a basic understanding of differential and
integral calculus (to recall one specific example off the top of my
head.)
It's entirely possible that she would knuckle down and learn what she
needs to know to pass those other subjects. I'm just thinking of the
typical first year student's year at university, with the copious
amounts of alcohol, partying, and general lack of anything related to
actual "study". Or maybe that's just the Halls of Residence ...
