What's questionable about it? The anti-German sentiment due to WWI at the
time was what prompted it, and they never pretended otherwise.


It took a while for the sentiment to get really bad and for the decision
to be made.

Many towns in .sa.au had German names due to the large Lutheran[1]
immigration in the late 1800s. Lots of those names were changed but
not till about the same time. Took that long for the bayoneting babies
stories to circulate I think.

[1] .sa.au being founded by dissenters and attracting heaps more religious
refugees of all stripes, more so than any other .au state. Hence the
"City of Churches" tag for Adelaide although no one ever mentions that
"City of Pubs" is a more accurate description.
