J.Bull of Cheltenham was selling them some time ago - ex-Simfire training
kits for MBT main gun. Nice chunky solid-state infrared laser of rather
substantial output: it had to have several miles range in daylight with
dust & smoke (etc.) present.
With a doubler crystal in the path, it should be a very nice ... what?
Blue? Green? laser.
Those are 1064 YAGs, if they're the same main-battle-tank aiming lasers
I'm thinking of. (so that'd be 532 green, same as green pointers)
Extra-cavity frequency doubling is *woefully* inefficient, though, you
really want intracavity FD and you'd need to replace/recoat the HR and OC
mirrors to be HR 532/1064 and HR 1064/ partial 532 respectively.
Really, you don't want to mess with that stuff, most of the time.
A 10-50 mW 532nm pointer (YAG/YVO pumped with an 808 nm IR laserdiode,
firing 1064, intra-cavity frequency doubled with KTP to 532 -- it's
pumping with a 500 mW or so laserdiode for that performance) is under a
hundred bucks these days.
Even a 1 Watter of 532 is relatively affordable (as in, cheaper than the
surplus plus mods).
hey still got any? How much?
I think they were sold out in '02 somewhere.
