Indeed. And given that the text is literature as well as scriptural,
sometimes accuracy has to suffer. The point is that one should always
keep in mind that it *is* a translation before using it to justify
ones political cause du jour, or to disparage someone else's.
One could, of course, argue that someone who needs the translation
because he does not speak the original language is a filthy
foreigner,
There was a period when Christian doctrine was uncomfortably close to
that; you were supposed to ask your priest rather than reading it
yourself. I'm not sure how controversial the Targum[1] was in its day.
[1] Translation of Tanach into Aramaic.
