Oh, gods I'm tempted to take a sicky.

"Hello Dave, this is Foo. He's started work with us this week. Can you
sort him out with a computer?"
"Yes. I'll order one now. It'll arrive in about 3-4 weeks."

Heh. For me it was "This is Zebee, new hire, where's her laptop? The
one we ordered 6 weeks ago? Yes, that one. Ah. THe order hasn't
gone through because... you don't know why. Right. Please try
again."

So I used my own fruitything for the first couple of weeks while they
scared up a laptop for me. Which, of course, I then penguined[1].

Meanwhile they had mis-spelt my name on all the paperwork and I knew
that if I accepted that it would be wrong forever. The first
correction changed one letter. The 2nd changed another. The 3rd
changed the first one back... Meanwhile I had to get a visitor pass
at the front desk every day and borrow a swipe card to leave the
office to do unimportant things like eat and visit the loo.

VBCs... aah....

[1] boss to me a bit later. "umm... I did promise desktop support
that I wouldn't let people put Linux on the laptops". "It's not like
I'm going to ask them for support is it, I'm a unix admin for godsake"
I eventually made him understand that as I haven't used doze since
Windows 3.1 I was not going to be productive on a windows box.
Mind you I'd be stuffed without Citrix!
