Does anyone else think that naming the servers in a
database cluster infragilis{1,2,3} shows a bit hubris?
Would this cluster be running software from the large database
company that took out television ads (in the US at least) a
year or so ago saying their database could run in a clustered
configuration so that "it never goes down"?
I don't watch television, but it might be. Lets just say
that judging from current trends the next version of their
software should be 11E.
Please note that I didn't name those servers (for some weird
reason I'm rarely asked to name servers). I would at least
have dropped the "in" from the start. Once they are up and
running, they generally just go on running, but damn, they
are complicated and easy to break by doing anything to
them, like applying patches.
If that's not inviting lightning strikes and/or lawsuits, I
don't know what is. Then again, the US laws about truth in
advertising are so lax, the lawsuit part is probably not an
issue.
Wasn't it Nike who claimed that the first amendment gave
them a right to lie blatantly in their ads?
