You seem to have missed reading the part of my post where I said:

He has helped me with several matters over the years and I've
always been pleased with his service and results. As an added
bonus, his rates are very reasonable.

I would not consider asking a lawyer for unpaid legal advice.
That would be like someone asking me to fix their PeeCee.
His long-winded (but very complete!) answers to my questions
were always "on the clock".

I don't know where you got the "convention" idea.
