I used to live at an address that went;
The Cottage
School Lane
<TOWN>
<POSTCODE>[1]
Nearby, there were *at least* three other addresses that went;
The Cottage
School Lane
<SUBURB>
<TOWN>
<POSTCODE>[2]
Mail deliveries were erratic, to say the least. To add insult to
injury, though, this was around the time that the Post Office used to
frank everything with a message that read "Please use the Post Code".
[1]
I don't know how specific Zip and other postcodes are, but a UK Post
Code can evaluate to as little as *part* of a street. Theoretically, a
letter addressed with a house number and a post code is deliverable.
[2]
Always seemed to be present on the letters misdirected to me, which
was why I used to write "Wrongly delivered, please use the Post Code"
in thick red felt tip on the envelope before reposting it.
