Think terraced houses: the front doors will be "paired" so that they
can economise on footpath to the door and have a single gate onto
the pavement/sidewalk. Thus the spacing between two front doors can
be as little as a 9" (two layers of brick, no cavity) brick wall and
the two dooframes. Actually, it will normally be the _length_ of two
(or three) bricks plus two doorframes... three bricks is about the
minimum and that's 29 inches plus about 4 inches for the two frames.
