Oh, I could always find mine at one job as it was sat on my desk, 9am
to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Outside those times, it'd still be on my desk at work while I'd be
elsewhere. If somebody paged me on a Friday evening, I'd be sure to
immediately respond to the page at 9am Monday morning, since I was
once again now being paid for my time.

That the employer eventually just withdrew the pagers rather than
negotiate a new employment contract tells me that they were rather
more interested in getting unpaid overtime than more reliable systems.
