Okay, then in this case it sucks mightily. Especially
since the printhead is obviously designed to allow
field-voodoo to overcome the kind of problems that
might occur with under-use.


You can't reset the timebomb somehow? Is anyone doing
third-party ink for those beasts, and can any lessons
be learned from their methods?

They're renowned for being conservative in the lifespan
they quote for consumables. Up to a point, for professional
printing by people who'd notice the difference, they may
even be right. I used various QrfxWrg 500'f and related
models rescued from the skip and fed with cartridges up to
six years out of date when I installed them (also rescued
from skips) and only threw them out after the printhead
wiring in the cartridges still in storage delaminated due
to prolonged exposure to methanol. As I don't need colour
enough to warrant purchasing either new cartridges or a
better cheap new inkjet, and can print better and faster
B&W with the salvaged laser, and the resale value for
a DJ550 is slightly less than the epay listing fee,
I junked the lot.
