What's the record for consecutive returns to the repair depot for the same
thing?
I'm at four times now.
(New laptop powers itself down at random. Almost certainly a bad video card,
curious experimentation has revealed, based on this and that evidence.)
The machine is back from the 4th trip to the depot described.
It still has the same problem, powers itself off within a half minute of powering
up ("Windows is preparing system for first use", some fancy graphics, power off.)
They know at the depot that powering off always comes from overheating, and so once
again replaced fan and heat sink, that being the second time they've done that.
But it comes from a RESET produced by a faulty video card once its features are
used by the windows driver.
So it's set for its 5th trip back now.
The curiosity is how many trips it would take before the techs notice that
they're not fixing it.
5th trip was a charm. They replaced the motherboard and it seems to work like
new. Which it is, after all.
Maybe my note with underlining and capital letters helped.
