Here's a question for you.
I recently bought a new Inspiron 537MT with Windows XP Pro installed
on it from the factory.

It does indeed have a restore partition which you access from the
usual Ctl-F11 method upon bootup.

I can press Ctl-F11 and the restore screen does appear with two
choices available as usual, But the mouse doesn't appear to work on
that screen, no mouse cursor, no error.

I've already tried other mice, plugging the mouse into different USB
ports, etc.

The system including the mouse works just fine if I boot into
Windows, it's just this restore screen that has the problem.

Any ideas??

Most likely the mouse driver isn't loaded yet at that point. So that is okay. There is no pointer on the screen either, right?

Correct. No cursor on the screen at all.

Neither option choice is highlighted either so I can't even choose one with the keyboard.

Also, the system does not have PS/2 legacy ports on it, only USB ports, so changing to an old-fashioned PS/2 keyboard isn't an option either.
