I saw the post about BSOD relating to corrupt dll and I Thought it
would be a good idea to start a new topic on this subject.
I have had 2 PC's crash this week. They both had a "Anti Virus Pro /
Windows Police Pro" type virus.
Both machines would not boot to safe mode (blue screen) and would
crash in normal mode.
When trying to repair them using UBD4win and running Spybot it would
find a few virus' and remove them.
This would kill the PC.
Both cases I have installed a new HD and reinstalled the OS and moved
the data files on the new disk.
This seems to be the only way to repair the PC's for now.
Whatever registry / dll changes these new virus variants are making is
really crumbing up XP. I hope a better fix comes out soon.
BELOW IS A POST I MADE ON NOV 24 in a different group.

0X00000050 (0XC7B9D8F4,0X00000001,0X80537009,0X00000000)
If I try to boot in safe mode I get
0X0000007E (0X00000003,0X805C49B8,0XBA4632B4,0XBA4C2FBO)
The only thing in the pc not "vanilla" is a ATI video card it is a
Radeon HD 2400 pro PCI by Visiontek which I have removed and am now
using the on-board video.
I have run a BARTPC CD and cleaned using the following apps any
malware/spyware/virus' without any help.
Avira
Avast
Malwarebytes
SPYBOT S&D
(spybot s&d found the most errors and cleaned them)
I have also replaced the RAM and still no joy.
I have also tried to "roll back" the registry to a few day ago
without
any luck.

I hope someone more familiar with these virus' can come up with a
better answer.

Sometimes, the best answer is to either restore from backup or just
reinstall from scratch unless there is some good reason to not do
this. I say this from experience because the time you spend trying
to figure this out, will drive you crazy. I'm aware the thought of
reinstalling from scratch is not something most would look forward to
(I've been there).
