Re: no sound from speaker of a Dell Optiplex GX280 machine

The Optiplex GX280 has an audio chip on the motherboard. Go into
the
BIOS setup (F2 when you first power up), and make sure that the on-board
audio is DISABLED. If it is enabled, it means that the on-board audio
takes precedence over the Sound Blaster audio card. Next, make sure
that your speaker cable is plugged into the green hole on the Sound
Blaster card, not the one on the motherboard.
How do I know which green jack is for the Sound Blaster and which one
for the
motherboard?

I went into BIOS turned the on board audio setting off,
went to Windows with the Soundblaster in Device manager enabled but
I could not hear any sound.

Then, I went into BIOS turned the on board audio setting on(ENABLED
it),
went to Windows, disabled the Soundblaster audio card in Device
manager and
I could hear sound. It makes me suspect my sound card could be
faulty.

Thanks to you and all who replied with useful suggestions. My issue is
solved.

Thanks again.
If that does not work,
remove the Sound Blaster, enable the on-board audio, download and
install the ADI SoundMax audio drivers on the Dell web site... Ben Myers
