Re: FireFox: Typing Address NAME ONLY In Address Bar No Longer Works

Drum roll...IT'S WORKING!
It was Frank's advice that ultimately did the trick. However, I'd seen that
info more than once yesterday in my searches. As one article describes,
Google has three different strings it can use in about:config for the
keyword.URL. I was using one of them...not working. The other one didn't
work either and the "I'm Feeling Lucky" string (that Frank suggested) said
it was for pre FF v2 so I didn't even bother with it. But today Zalternate's
message (over on the dslbroadband website) also included a Google link that
described what "I'm Feeling Lucky" does. Which is: automatically takes you
to the first WEB PAGE returned FOR YOUR QUERY. Certainly sounds like what I
lost and am so desperately trying to get back and I can always undo it so I
gave it a try. BINGO!
So, for anyone that's having this problem and would like to go back to just
typing the name only, here is what to do:
In a FF browser window, type about:config. Promise it you won't do
anything stupid :)
In the filter line, type keyword.URL
Double click the string and replace what's there with

Thank you ALL again for a taking the time to help :)

I posted this question to the Mozilla newsgroup 3 days ago. No replies
:( I've gotten one response on the Mozilla forum on line but it wasn't
what I needed. Hoping someone here might have the answer.
I've been using FF for 4 years. I've always been able to just type the
name of a url (for example, dell) without having to type the .com or hold
the ctrl key while hitting enter....just dell and hit enter.
The last few days, if I don't type the (.com) I'm redirected to a Yahoo
search page instead of my intended website. FF version is 3.5. I've
tried upgrading to FF 3.5.2 (have since reverted back to 3.5). I've
cleared cookies and cache/temp internet file. I've done a system
restore. I don't have any extra "toolbars" installed. There are no
programs in Add/Remove Programs that I don't recognize or that look
suspicious. Hijack This report looks good. I've run Malware Bytes,
AdAware and Avast. I've started FF in safe mode...no change.
There's GOT to be an answer! Anyone? Please??
Monica

Somehow, the Yahoo search has replaced the Google "I'm Lucky" search.
Perhaps the following will help:
