I've got a new Vostro 2510, running XP Pro (SP3).
The way I typically do things is to use hibernate mode instead of
shutting down. On previous machines, this was perfectly OK. I could
go for days without having to reboot.
Now, on this machine, every so often the when I click on a desktop
icon to open an program, other icons get selected too, and all the
programs associated with the icons open. Or, if I'm in my email
client (Thunderbird) clicking on an email selects all the emails
above the one I want to open.
This does not happen all the time, but it does seem to happen when the
computer has not had a reboot for a while.
Any ideas? Is this any issue with the touchpad?
Thanks.

The only Dell I have access to XPS-400 with Windows XP Media 2005 does
the very same thing after Hibernation. It acts like left mouse click has
a sticky Shift key held down. Only a reboot clears it up. And I never
figured out why it does this. So I would like to know a solution too.
