I would try burning the iso at a slower speed.

Well, I'd intended on writing some sort of review of my experiences of Windows 7 on a Vostro 1700 laptop (4GB ram, 256mb graphics card, 160gb hard drive and T7100 1.8 core-2-duo processor)..
Alas, the install falls over after about four minutes with a curt "a required CD/DVD device driver is missing".
Excuse me? The DVD is spinning away quite happily? And I've been using the drive under Vista (how do you think I burned the Win 7 ISO image FFS?).
Microsoft seem quite determined to go from the sublime to the ridiculous with their operating system install routines.
XP had the ludicrous hard-coded "SATA drivers can only be installed from the a: drive" even though most pcs were no longer shipping with a floppy.
Vista had the memorable "Windows cannot find a suitable volume on which to install". Sorry mate, no extra help, you're on your own.
And now this.
If Billy Gates didn't have 24hr armed security, I think I'd walk upto him and kick him in the bollocks. Hard.
Thank you for reading.
