Go into the BIOS. This is a symptom of the drive being OFF, not AUTO or
ON.
Works, but in PIO mode.

Subject: DMA Mode Not Available?
It's my Dim 4550, with XPHome, SP3, etc.
There are two optical drives on the seconday IDE. They are cable
select.
One is a Liteon DVD-ROM, which is set to "DMA if available", and it is
in
UDMA Mode 2. It works fine.
The other is a newly installed Pioneer DVR-116D, which doesn't want to
play in DMA mode. Upon installation, which was simple PnP, Device
Manager reports "DMA if available",but current transfer mode is PIO.
I've gone into the registry and deleted both MasterIdDataChecksum and
SlaveIdDataChecksum values, and when I reboot, the Pioneer reports the
same in Device Manager. I also tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE
channel, but still no go.
Before I troubleshoot by swapping the drives positions on the cable,
does
anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for the second time today.
