Inspiron 531S won't rip/import cd's

Hi, I bought a Dell Inspiron 531s yesterday, and I've tried ripping/importing several different CDs using several different programs (CDex, Audiograbber and WMP11) but I get errors on all 3, an 'aspi' error on the audiograbber and just plain 'error' on the other 2 programs. The DVD-Rom seems to read the cd and get info like tracklisting, artist, etc. but it won't go further that and rip the whole cd (well I got one track to rip, the rest all give errors) Any help getting the thing to work is appreciated :) using Vista Home Premium Sp1 with additional updates.
