I got warning when I turned my computer on yesterday morning of a "low
battery voltage". I am assuming this is the small battery on the
motherboard. What is the proper procedure to replace it? Is it as
simple as just switching it out?

Yup, most likely a Lithium button cell battery. Pop it out and pop in
the new one.
