Hi!

Without your keyboard and mouse working, I don't see what choice
you have.

Windows XP is "stupid" about this and has problems with USB keyboards
and mice. The problem comes up when Windows tries to take over control
of the USB devices from the BIOS, and it is aggravated by installing
the Intel Chipset Drivers, which installs INF support for Intel USB
controllers and causes Windows to lose track of the keyboard and mouse
if they are attached over USB.

Windows won't redetect them without some prodding, and I've suggested
a method that worked for me on two different Dell systems.

It will take some diddling around to regain control of the system, but
it can be done without reinstalling everything.
