Have installed latest Manufacturer Vista drivers
scanner and camera working perfectly if connected closer to the computer
(1 meter cable - USB hub - 1 meter cable - peripherial) (needed to be powered by USB....)
but why was it working for year
and now sensible to distance ?

morning,
My desk is in "U" shape, computer being on one side,
printer, scanner, camera being on the other side,
while the "bottom" is used as the front desk......
USB cable is then "very long" between the two sides,
a 5 meters piece extended with a 1 meter pieces of cable.
(I know it is out of the standard)
ending wit a USB powered Hub, then another pieces of 1 meter cable to reach each peripherial.
It worked perfectly for years with my Dimension 8400,
but that one lately died.
I bought A XPS 420 with Intel Core duo @ 3.00 Ghz
and Vista !!!
Problem now......!!!
scanner not recognized,
printer working ½ de time,
while camera can connect only 25% of the time.
Very problematic to change disposition of everything.
What are my alternatives ?
have searched for USB "extender", but found only USB1, so very slow......
would a powered USB hub in middle of the road help?
or is it only a kind of splitter ?
Thank you very much for any idea / solution you may bring to this very big problem to me,
and sorry for my english.
Daniel
