Sorry for this long message:

I'm beginning to look into a replacement for my Dim 8300. I not up to
date on on changes in the proecssors definitions. I currently have a
Pentium 4 Processor at 3.0GHz with HT Technology (don't know how this
compares to the new processors), 2GB memory, 19in - 1901FP Digital
Flat Panel. I updated to Vista and had many problems, and after
conferring with Dell, had to reformat and reinstall WinXP (as I was
told the 8300 is not compatible with Vista!). I have had it for
awhile and was already thinking about upgrading to something more
current.

I do a lot of Internet, maintain some websites, have a local network
to connect to my Laptop (currently connected via a DSL and Linksys
4-Port Router), lot of Family History Research. Heavy use is Office
(All), Financial Inst. Websites in Trades, etc. Open a lot of screens
at one time.

I do not know the how to compare the new processors vs. the old Pet.
processor, so could use some help there. I went to the Dell site and
config'd the system below, but was not able to determine how it would
compare to my old system, and what advantages I would gain.

Any insights/suggestions/comments appreciated.

Go over to the Dell Outlet and find a 'scratch and dent' or 'certified
refurbished' XPS420 and save yourself some money while still having a
one-year hardware warranty.

You'll get a solid case and hardware while also avoiding integrated video -
