Re: eBay story will probably turn out OK

On occasion, I buy replacement parts for Dell computers on eBay. There
are apparently a lot of people in TX with access to Dell spares.

I bought a keyboard to repair an Inspiron E1405 from justpartsusa9620
(Truc V Phan). They keyboard got here promptly, and I installed it
yesterday. To my dismay, most of the keys on the right side of the
keyboard had an almost sticky slow action, and there was some residue on
the metal surface of the keyboard. (I did not taste the residue, but I'll
bet it was the remains of a spilled Coke.) I contacted the supplier
yesterday, and he sent out a replacement to me this morning.

There are also a number of eBay sellers advertising new Dell parts shipped
from Hong Kong. Somebody has a pipeline to parts over there, too. The
items I've bought from the Hong Kong sellers have all been A-OK, and they
arrived quickly, too. With the modest shipping charges, it looks very
much like the Chinese govt is subsidizing international mail.

The prices of many of these parts are MUCH lower than buying through Dell
spares. I also bought a replacement palmrest for the E1405 from another
eBay seller, and it functions perfectly and has only a couple of tiny
blemishes... Ben Myers

If I might add an observation, if you are near a military base or large
federal/state institution they from time to time sell of lots of equipment
of new or barely used. Some even just gets dumped. Years ago the NC
National was going to field a Novell based network, but the project hit a
snag and got shelved. During a major house cleaning, they dumped hundred of
5 license copies of Novell. I used to know the guy who helped do the
cleaning and saved the environment by seeing that none of it wound up in a
land fill. Yes good ole tax dollars at work.

Also many government type organizations get equipment in waves to keep
systems standardized and dispose of some systems the same way. Some items
will see heavy use and some will see little at all. Shop smart and you can
get some sweat heart deals that way.
