etc.If your router or switch is 100mb, that is the speed at all nics
atached will run.
Mike
Not necessarily, the NICs will run at their set speed, 10/100/1000
Ifplugged
the router is backward compatible it won't matter to it in the least.
However some NICs do have problems if they are faster than the router.
Gb
NICS often have trouble slowing down to 10 Mbps networks. One easy
test is
to set the NICs Link/Speed & Duplex to 10 Mbps Half Duplex manually.
That's
pretty much as slow as you can go and is just about the universal
minimum
connection speed for most CAT5 based networks. If the NICs Link/Speed
&
Duplex is set to high it may not recognize that a cable is even
in.
Most modern switches set their speed at the port level. Mine does. So,
the computer is attached to a 1000mbps port, as are the three identical
machines I own. This is the only one with the problem.
The router is also gigabit, but it wouldn't matter as the only thing
connected to the router is the switch.
