Microsoft has some Vista readiness software on line, but I think that your system is capable of running reasonably as long as it has enough memory.

I ran this last night, and it just said "Vista" - it didn't say anything about 32 or 64-bit versions.

64-bit Vista with 4GB or more may be a better choice than 32-bit Vista. Either way, be prepared to deal with incompatibilities with older software and add-on devices like printers, scanners, etc.

I ran the service tag through the dell support site and it turns out I have a "2.8GHz Pentium D". Does that change anything?

TIA,

PDR

The "4" is now a "D", the 4th letter in the alphabet. It probably means that the CPU in your system is hyperthreaded, so it provides a limited speed improvement over a plain Pentium 4. It also means that the memory is probably PC3200 and the CPU front side bus is 800MHz, which also help performance compared to older, slower memory... Ben Myers
