Question: What are the advantages / disadvantages of DSL vs Cable?
Perhaps the only negative I can think of about DSL is that you have to
have line filters on almost everything for DSL to work properly.
Where I lived, they supplied all of them for free except for my home
alarm which I bought on line.
I used a DSL/POTS splitter (about $30):

In part this was because I didn't know whether the DSL signal would tolerate my fifty year old phone wiring very well. I needed to run a new line from the splitter to the computer for the DSL, but I think it is better and neater than having to stick filters all over the house.
I should note that if you already have a good line to a phone jack that you can dedicate for use by the DSL modem, you can just connect that line to the DSL side of the splitter--you don't necessarily need to run a new line.
