Re: any way to increase RAM above 2 GB in a Dell precision?

could be that you are low on disk space. you would see more start-up
performance improvement from replacing the current drive with a faster one
than with a ram upgrade (4200rpm upgraded to 5400rpm). you probably should
check the specs of the gis program that you use as it may or may not take
advantage of a larger amount of memory which would translate to a waste of
money. a fast disk would help the applications performance in starting and
your system performance overall.

I've got a several year old M70 (2.00 ghz with 2 GB RAM). It definitely
clogs up with all the applications starting up. The first five minutes the
mouse may freeze due to all the updating, virus checking, pulling up the
pants, etc. going on. I also run a GIS with pretty large files at times.
Is there any way to up the RAM above 2 gb? Maybe use a disk cache?
thanks!
