William,
Thanks very much for your reply.
I usually partition drives anyway.
So to coonfirm, the limit is on the partition size, not the physical drive
capacity?
The offered drives for D830 are so small compared to 250 or 320 that are
becoming standard on even under - $1000 laptops.
Other questions:
Did you happen to add memory yourself, which is half the price of Dell's
option. I understand one has to take off the hinge panel and the keyboard
just to add memory.
Do you find the D830 display on a par with that of HP or Toshiba?

Hi!
Is this a limit of the BIOS/Motherboard, or will a separately-
purchased larger notebook drive from various vendors work?
There could be a limitation. I found out recently that my Latitude
D800--purchased in March 2005--has a 137GB limit in the A13 (latest)
BIOS.
You might check the Dell forums--had I done that first, I would have
known about my computer's limitation before purchasing a 250GB drive.
(It's not the end of the world, however. Partitioning works fine to
get at the additional capacity.)
William
