Re: XP SP3 Prevents Installation of IE6?
Hi!
Will SP3 install IE7, and prevent me from going back
to IE6?
No. Windows XP SP3 installs Internet Explorer 6 SP3.
The problem comes in when you already have IE7 and SP2. The SP3 installer
makes a backup of all the SP2 files your system has on it, but if you have
IE7, most of those files don't exist or have been replaced with the IE7
versions. It also doesn't install IE6 SP3.
IE7 setup makes a backup of IE6 as it existed at the time IE7 was installed.
That is to say that it will have backed up IE6 SP2, and not the needed SP3.
If you were to uninstall IE7 after applying SP3, you would end up restoring
IE6 SP2 files, which will cause strange behavior.
Since you do not have IE7 installed, you can install SP3, install IE7 and
have the option to uninstall IE7 if you don't like it.
