the Vista "upgrade/install" repair procedure with a Dell installation

I have at least one strange-looking GUI scenario after a bout with Acronis
DiskDirector 10, so I was just wondering........

Thanks all.

No but if I understand your situation correctly, it sounds like you
got messed up after using DD10. If so, what did you do that messed
you up in DD10 and what is the problem right now?

After some unknown error, DD10 immediately went into a "black-screen repair"
scenario for a few seconds after I re-sized my D: partition. Then my laptop
automatically re-booted into Vista and all seemed well....

Except: I had an "extra" (C:) drive icon in Vista's own Disk Management
screen. (Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Computer
Management>Disk Management). But instead of the usual little "disk" image
for that second C: icon, it was a standard "file folder" icon. And right
after the
(C:) there was text in parentheses: ("missing")

The good new is: after several reboots the extra file folder icon seems to
have disappeared. Hopefully for good!

But my question still stands on the "upgrade/install" trick.
